saturday evenings with mr. t....

this week mr t talks about an annual event at the old dover schoolhouse...

The Dover School reunion is mostly for old folks, but I always seem to end up taking my kids there, they love the old school and the newer museum they have next door. The kids grew up so far with the Dover School Reunion. They now have a log cabin in back. Theo Mickle is usually working the little event, and Olive Allen still lives kitty corner across the street and usually shows up.

My mom used to go there with my dad and have me drive them toward the end, back in the early 90's. In fact i think the last picture taken of her, Theo, and me was taken in 93 right in front of that school on the porch. Scary emotional stuff. Took Dad there in 95 after Nathan was born. It happens in July, around the 20th. There is an individual named Nelda Murphy with whom Theo helps run it along with a few other old timers. My wife got bored with it anymore because there's nothing there for her so I usually take the kids alone. It's an emotional thing for me, a connection to the past my wife wouldn't relate to or understand much. It's the only time you can really go home again, if only for a couple of hours.

Often we would hook up a trip up north with it, and use it as a friendly pit stop. The kids have grown up with this annual little trip so I can hardly say no. You can't visit like you'd like to with Theo so much because she's busy playing host and clean up crew. One time Kathy Mickle Williams, and Olive's daughter Marilyn, showed up. even your relatives, the Hoovers, showed up and some of your cousins. One guy looked liked you with a dark beard and I about did a double take (think I told you that last year). I thought you were pulling a joke on me for a second. Your aunt from Ohio(ed note...that would be my aunt phyllis) was there in 96 I think.
