saturday evening with mr. t...

this weeks offering is a small bit of family trivia , from an e-mail exchange back in '04...this is a short version of one of my most cherished memories...

"We are sort of both stuck in 1969, aren't we? Except for a visit in 1973,
another from your sister I think, in 1977, and old letters from our parents and
grandparents. Yet we are not totally stuck in 1969. But sometimes we need to
"Get Back to where we once belonged." Maybe we would like to be there, if just
for a day, to see what it was really like versus our embellished
memories.....sometimes, maybe most of the time, the embellished memories are
better. I remember passing the corn around the table with Dan, you, Cyndi, and
maybe Pat Mickle around Easter time to see how many times it would go around
before someone discovered it. Boy did we have a laugh on the parents and aunts
and uncles when they discovered it. Took 'em at least ten minutes while they
jabbered on. That's one of my favorite stories I tell my kids, and they laugh.
It may have been 1967 or 1969 around Easter Time because we had the Mickles and
Grandma down to our house with the Hoovers. The Mickels - Remember their dog,
Sadie? I will sign off for tonight. The memories are starting to come back but I
might sit here until midnight our time before I realize what time it is. It's
9:35 p.m. here as I type this sentence. I tend to get up really early in the
morning, say, 5:30 a.m., out of working man's paranoia, or just do not want to
miss a minute of the day. Life is so short."
