Attached is a scan of two photos I found - (they are duplcicates so I copied just one) - of the Timlin house at 3614 Ridgefield Rd. , Lansing MI. This appears to be taken in 1965 or possible Spring 1966. You can see the top of a car, it was probably the insurance agent photo taken from their car in the street. the car in the driveway appears to be the red Chevrolet we used to have, only in black and white.
This is a damn good photo of the old house. today the bushes are removed, the tree on the right of the front is removed, so the house looks very similar now. Except the front yard tree is huge now. Another tree to the left of the garage (not seen in photo) has been removed as well, and now there is a fence around the back and side yard.
Timlin's owned from 1965 to 1999. Dad moved in 1998 and it was sold to current owner in 99. there are a lot of memories behind this photo - I lived there from 1965 to 1979 and then again from 1982 - 1987. Not good to put on your resume, but I had 5 more years with mom who died in late 1994, and dad who has been gone since 2002.
A house can be a symbol of your life, positive I hope, and I don't know how to describe what I feel except "home" "love" and "warmth" mostly, when I look at this photo.........

Wow, that is an early photo, thanks. Different time, a different place (always a smile on our face) That tree sure is small. Later used to climb it to get onto the roof. It grew huge and they took it down about a year ago. Original garage door, that thing was heavy to open, had it for years. This was before bb gun dents in the back of that address numbers sign hanging from the lamp post , hahaha.

I remember dad digging a little ditch and laying ceramic pipe to help drain water away from house or something, first thing when we moved there.
Hoovers were actually the first people to see our new house, particularly Steve and Cindy who came home with us from up north. This was even after we had gone in a vacation.

Pardon the typos. Dad move OUT in 1998. We went ON a vacation, not in one. haha.

Meant I could see and talk to mom almost every day for those extra five years, and dad too.

HOUSE TRIVIA:
The original color of the house in that photo was pink, with wooden siding. Later was painted a turquoise blue, which pinated over similar again in 1974. Sometime in the late 1970's or early 80's dad had them insulate the house by blowing in the fuzzy stuff into drilled holes into the walls from the outside. 1983, Dad had yellow aluminum siding put on (might have been right after the insulation, don't remember - just remember those silly plastic buttons the used to cover the holes after they were finished with insulation') Today, the yellow siding temains.

I am sure Dan can fill in more technical stuff abou the house.

The date of the photo is really in question. I am betting it is fall 1965, right after we would have gotten house insurance and the agent or some else had to get a photo, and we got copies of it. I could even be as early as 62, with the previous owners car in the driveway. I really don't know.

All i know is that crab apple tree on the right of the house is really small. And the mere sight of a black and white photo of my old home is kind of eery anyway, like a ghost image from the past. What happens a 100 years from now when all these houses are probably gone, people will have forgotten about us just as we have forgotten or never knew our great grandfathers etc. What was Armstrong Allen like? What was his mother and father like? What were all these people about...were they happy and sad just like us?
