Theo Mickle
Theo Mickle, 93, of Battle Creek, formerly of Auburn, Michigan, died Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Bickford Cottage, Battle Creek.
Theo, daughter of the late Floyd and Margaret Allen was born May 6, 1924 in Clare, Michigan. She graduated from Clare High School in 1941, attended Central Michigan University and received a State-Limited Teaching Certificate. She began teaching at McGill School, Midland,Michigan and later taught overseas at American Schools in Ankara, Turkey and Sidi Slimane Air Force Base, Morocco. She continued her education while living in Clovis, New Mexico and Oscoda,Michigan.
She later married Vane Mickle of Clare, December 16, 1944 in Los Angeles, California while he was serving in the United States Navy during WWII, he preceded her in death in 1985. Two children were born to this union. Theo was pleased to be a military family that had the opportunity to live in many different places in the United States and to experience cultures of other countries.
While residing in Oscoda, she was employed in Civil Service at Wurtsmith Air Force Base as a secretary in the Information Office, retiring in 1981. She joked that the best part of her job was her IBM Selectric Typewriter.
Theo was a big Tiger Baseball Fan, enjoyed watching Red Wings Hockey on TV, crocheting beautiful afghans, and reading. She had many discussions with her son-in-law Jeff, and strong opinions, good and bad, about how the teams were doing.
Survivors include daughter, Kathryn (Jeff) Williams, Battle Creek, grandchildren, Michelle (Jerry) Hanna, Jeffrey (Emily) Williams, Chad Mickle, Lauren (Jason) Bakke, great-grandchildren Gabe Hanna, Noah Hayes, Evan Hanna, Caleb Hayes, Faith Hayes, Paige Mickle, Harper Williams, Beckett Williams, nephews, Thomas Timlin, Daniel Timlin, great-nephew Nathan Timlin, great-niece Michaela Timlin.
Also preceding her in death, son Patrick Mickle 1995, siblings, Lyle Bond, Loree Timlin and Joann Hoover.
Theo loved and was loved by her family. She was a devoted and loving wife, wonderful mother and grandmother, who was always ready to help family. Even though she will be greatly missed ,she is at peace.
At the family’s request, cremation has taken place.
Graveside Services will be held in May 2018, Cherry Grove Cemetery, Clare, Michigan.
