my cousin,T,sent me a copy of a funeral announcement for our grandmas neighbor, paul nass. he,along with his wife rose, were grandmas best friends,at least through the 60's and 70's. they owned the farm which surrounded the green house on three sides, the front side being old 27. they lived a couple of hundred feet up the road on the north side. just south of grandmas property line was a driveway (we call it paul nass drive) which led to pauls barn, where he kept his cows and tractor and whatnot. you can see a shot of the barn, in winter, taken from grandmas back porch, in the slideshow a couple of posts back. anyway of coarse we weren't supposed to play or hang out there, but did go at every opportunity.
paul passed away in may of '79, at the age of 77. his wife , rose, a few years later. our grandmother missed them both terribly
says T, "I didn't go (to the funeral) and regret it but I was student teaching at the time and all wrapped up in completing college. He was 77. I always liked that guy, he was very kind to everyone, especially our grandmother............he would stop in every morning and have coffee with her for an hour before goin to the barn. that was very kind hahaha, BEFORE going to the barn so there was no manure smell.........and Rose used to drive Grandma to town with her for supplies and groceries. these people, these neighbors were priceless, they really were."
couldn't have put that any better myself...
