it was 40 years ago today...

happy sgt. peppers lonely hearts club band day. my family was preparing to move to clare,on our way to germany for what we thought was going to be a three year tour. it was a busy time for us, sorting, packing, and shipping our stuff. i really don't remember that much about the album when it came out ,but as a beatles fan i had heard of it. we wound up staying in clare for 6 months till we got our travel orders. now we kids had no problem with this fact, because we loved it there. and we were closer to our cousins and saw them almost every other weekend. and had our fun..all summer and fall we were there. it was great...

it was after we got to germany in dec.'67 that i really, really became aware of sgt peppers. the music scene was a bit more sophisticated than clare.sgt p's was all over the place. so was hendix. i was fucking amazed.that music was fresh, exciting and just plain good. it shaped my life in several different ways, that music did...

"When I spent 4 days with Grandma in 1968, after the big trip to California, I would play that album over and over on the record player I brought with me. I had just bought Sgt. Peppers then, and still have that copy of it. I also have a "picture record" copy from the late 70's early 80's. Every time I think of those 4 days, Sgt. Pepper's album plays in my head and helps me remember stuff. How I rode my bike half way to Clare, and also to Dover to visit Olive Allen."
