d-day...

this weekend i watched 9 of the 10 hours of the mini-series
"band of brothers" on the history channel . i've watched it every
time they have it on . it is , as far as i'm concerned , one of the finest
films ever done on the normandy landing ,told from the perspective of
easy co. ,101st airborne .
d-day was a turning point in the war against
the nazis , a massive influx of men and materials designed to penetrate
into europe . it was a bloody day...thousands of american and allied
forces spilled their blood and gave their lives on this day , and i would like
to take this opportunity to thank them for giving their all in the cause
of rightousness ...

Never let it be said that those of a different political party or opinion than are not patriotic. The evidence is here as Steve has shown in his post. Those who gave their lives fighting for a just cause agreed upon by the vast majority of representative government, against tyrants of oppressive countries murdering their own and others out of power hungry disrespect for humanity in general. This was Hitler and Musselini and Japan. This was what are fathers fought for, the right to have a voice or opinion without fear of ridicule, punishment, death, or murder of one's family. This is what they stood for and died for, in defense of ourselves and others.

thanx,er,a,anonymous...i will say that political persuasion is no indicator of one's patriotism and love of country.there are some times and events that transend things like partison politics.when our country unites in a just cause such as ww2 is when our country shines in her finest hour.
so thak you very much for the compliment,i very much appreciate it...

By the way, it's about those who died to accomplish something here, and those who survived ww2 also. We should remember and thank them. I personally don't believe that everyone who has a crackpot comment or agrees with negativity toward our military personel qualifies as a patriot. My definitions are different, and I've a right to those. For example I don't believe in unjustly imprisoning our young Marines for doing their job. I also don't believe getting rid of the gravesite crosses in Arlington or in France simply because someone is insulted or feels "put upon" by symbols of Christianity. I also know that there were many "people" that didn't want us to get involved in WW2. And furthermore, "Loose lips sink ships". Even Pres. Roosevelt threatened to shut down a few newspapers who were reporting their propaganda and giving away when and where our ships were leaving Ca. ports. He also sent warships to help England, without congressional consent. Most importantly is how a person chooses to treat others. "Deeds - not words" Today we have a volunteer military, not a draft. Ask the military personel what they think today and you may be surprised, not withstanding some of the sound bites you may get in certain edited programs. But all that said, I love it when the people hold any Pres. of any party or politicians feet to the fire and keep them in line.

Yeh, trying to do the rught thing for England when Congress didn't buy into the war. Interesting paradox in a different time. "Feet to the Fire" good one. Someone offended by crosses on graves in Arlington and France? Hahahaha. Would do they want? the Koran? The Swastica? Maybe the golden arches? That is pretty stupid. Also, Loose shits sink ships too. Ever have a pluggled toilet on a submarine during silent running? Sink and stink...........just a little joke there.

Wow you guys! I am very impressed with all of your statements. My daughter make me watch the Band of Brothers a few years back and it is actually my favorite history move to date. And altho I am politically illiterate I consider myself very patriotic. I get emotional during the national anthem almost every time!
