OLD FASHION DAY AT DOVER Saturday, September 27, the Clare County Historical Society will offer a day of entertainment, hourly drawings for prizes and fun to all. The event, Old Fashion Day At Dover, will be held at the CCHS grounds 4 miles north of Clare on Old-27 and 1 mile east on Dover Road. This is the site of the county’s first settlement, Crawfordville (1866).Activities begin at 11 AM when the ring of Master Blacksmith Al Vanderbrink’s hammer will be heard. Live music by 6 or 8 local musicians, a petting zoo, antique farm tractors, treadle sewing and rug making with cider and donuts, hot dogs, popcorn and pop, will be offered.Featured in the event program will be a revealing talk, ("How It All Began") on land and its importance to our forefathers by Clare County Surveyor Paul Lapham at 11:30. Following will be a hayride to the county’s first cemetery, conducted by George L. Dunham, CCHS President and author of a complete set of books that detail all of Clare County’s cemeteries. Chicken processing, rope splicing, a retrospective on the Historic Dover School, a variety of supervised games for children, the Ott Family Log Cabin and Clare County Museum round it all out.Admission is $2 per person (students $1) or $5 for an entire family.
