I am so glad Tammy and I went over to see Olive. I remember you guys did too about an hour after we did or something. We sat and talked and also I bought a painting from her. Only to have money refunded in a thankyou card from her a few says later. I've always gotten a Christmas card from her and always sent her one. I mean for years now. And of course she'd always write everything about what was going on. I have a picture of her & I in Tammy's phone. She said everytime someone would drive her to town she's alays look over instinctively at gramma's becuase she was used to, and always expected to see, gramma's white hair in their looking out the front window and in her mind she could still see gramma looking out smiling. I remember gramma would always get the 3 phone calls usually in the morning everyday. Can anyone guess who they were? It was always Rose, Olive, and Dorothy. Although sometimes dorothy would call a little later. They were looking after each other and gramma because they really cared. And when gramma had that phone applifier on her phone you'd most certainly know who was on the other end! Olive was a great person and loved by everyone, she will be dearly missed.

Delmer and Olive were at Grandma's funeral, were always very close to grandma and her kids' and families. We used to visit them often as little kids with the family when we went on the Dover visiting tour of Delmer, Louis, and Dorothy, who all lived next to each other. We used to go over there at least 4 times a year it seemed , in the beginning. Maybe twice a year as we got older. We even shared a few holidays such as christmas, with them, as eveidenced in a few home movies from the 50's and early 60's. Delmer once answered a letter for me regarding his occupation for a 6th grade project. I think I still have that letter!
Delmer and Olive came to my wedding in 1989, Olive came to mom's funeral, I think even Dennis and Donna were either at my wedding or sent a gift. in 1966, we were at Dennis and Donna's wedding. Every time someone like this passes away another piece of living history is gone, let alone the loss for the immediate family. Kathy mickle (Williams)was always close to Marilyn when they were kids in Clare off and on, horse riding buddies while Uncle Vane was stationed in the military in a foreign country somewhere, and Mickles were temporarily camped at Grandma's. Pat and Kathy sometimes hung out with Dennis and Marilyn.

i unfortunately have no recent memories of olive...it's been a little under 36 years since i saw and spoke with her . that would have been august of '73 . i took mom and grandma and cyndi over there . we had , as always a pleasant visit . told her and delmar about cali , about my trip out there and all the usual small talk . the rest of the time i tapped my foot . that sounds pretty crappy , but i was nineteen and had other fish to fry . i remember all through the sixties whenever we went up to clare , at some point during the visit we had a little route , with all the people to visit.and i was always anxious to get a little farther down dover road to my grampa hoovers farm. olive was one of the people whom mom wrote back and forth with , usually weekly. so i always got the news of dover corner . the last i heard from her was a sympathy card , on the occasion of moms passing . tom is correct about our history , and the passing of another family icon...

I forgot to add I had written a letter to Olive and received a letter from Olive directly after the last Dover School Reunion which we attended. the letter is dated July 25, 2008 on the postmark. I still have the letter in my drawer. I am glad I saved it. I would rather not publish it however, out of respect for the Olive Allen family.
Yes gang I remember going visiting on the relative tour. It's OK when your younger at first, but then when ya got bored it was enough already. But you could always feel the love in the room. I remember the horse Marlyn had behind the house there. And as I told Tom they used to have a German Shepard named Cindy. Scary when your a kid but that dog knew we were family. (Now as you guys have said before, perhaps not aunt louis' dog, haha)Anyway when we were there last summer Olive's mind was still sharp, but she was moving slow of course and on oxygen. She showed us pictures of everyone and grandkids. She gave us a run down on what she watched on TV everyday and how she got the cable guy to come out and fix her set etc. But going back..When I was really young Delmar used to scare me a little with his voice and kidding around etc. I told Olive that, and she laughed because she knew just what I was talking about and proclaimed that Delmar was a real kidder. Steve, after filming up there I realized how close Grampa Hoover's house was to Delmar and Olive's.
