well , we've jumped ahead another month from last weeks
edition .now we are in germany , but still living in
out temporary housing , which was this way cool , huge
8 room apt. on the base .we had arrived on the 6th of
dec,1967 . so we had been there 20 day's or so . i recall
the whole thing as kind of surreal , one minute we're
living in the middle of michigan at grammas , the next
we're thousands of miles away in a foreign country .the
culture shock was pretty trippy...
at any rate this is the first dispatch from our new home...

Another good one. Too bad you didn't like the roulette wheel, ibibib. I take it that's your mom's handwriting on the envelope. two 4 cent stamps, ah those were the days!
yeah,i really hated that thing.i recall thinking at the time that we wouldn't have gotten anything that cool in mi.,prolly cause you wouldn't be able to find such a thing anywhere around clare.
Surreal? Reading these letters is now surreal isn't it? Wipe Out is playing, how appropriate.
I remember mom had the flu the day you (Hoovers) left from our house. The end of 1967 was when the Hong Kong Flu was going around. Now Last Train to Clarksville is playing. Dan and I are the one branch of the family that have absolutely no experience of long term foreign living.
You know, home is really a place in the mind in the past where evrything has been colored by time and hopefully the bad stuff wasn't too bad, and we can return to that when we leave here, where our parents, grandparents, cousins and aunts and uncles and everyone else already gone will meet us with open arms at Old 27, the way it was in the 60's, where everyday will be a big reunion party, (with 45's and 78's and not CD's) and we can all finally get some peace, away from all troubles of this life.
Reference to Steve's comment, ironically there's a casino 15 minutes from Clare now. And Tom, we all know happiness is a state of mind-it's just easier to get to that state of mind when your a kid.
...and I can't get over how that envelope looks in such mint condition. Letters too. But that 42 yr.old (almost 43) envelope looks better than half the stuff I get in my mailbox today. Great save Tom! Of course...I never got one of those..sniff sniff....
ibibibibibibib these freekin letters are in better shape than i am,fer shure.and dan...i cannot possibly imagine a casino there.i mean,i've seen it thanx to you.but it is mind boggling...
and i'm still wondering(and probably always will)why mom wrote out the envelopes...
You know how moms are.....
Alright...what happened to the Old 27 Jukebox?
Juke box is working here...turn on your speakers dude. haha.
i gotta write a book about Old 27 someday, sell it for the movies. Jeff Daniels can guest star as Spike Horn. But what about Floyd and Roy? Dan, Billy Crystal can play dad, hahahaha. Jewish Paul with a NY accent........
