saturday magical mystery tour...

From sh_letters # 26

here we are at week 26.we are still living at our first place here
in socal . this particular letter was started 481 months ago ,to
the day . we've gone back in time from jan.16 , 1967 , to dec. 23 ,
1969 .what a two years that was . i've gone from a 12 and a half
yead old smartass dork ,to a 14 and a half year old smartass dork
who lives in socal . music is still first and foremost in my mind .
i notice that , at least in this letter no mention is made of us
getting together , although a band name does pop up . i'm trying
to remember what else was going on at that time . i was attending
helix high school as a sophmore . all us smokers used to hang out
across a small service road to smoke in the morning . it wasn't
school property so they could do nothing but watch . sometimes
they would stake us out and try to identify who had ciggs , and
then try to bust them with the smokes when they crossed the street.
pshaw...all us guys kept them in our underware , where of course
no one dared search . at least in those long gone carefree days
of yore...

so , what else ? spent christmas day that year at uncle lyles .
and after the morning present thing , before (and after) dinner .
we went swimming in their pool . swimming ! outside in a pool ! on
christmas day ! it was a miracle...a christmas miracle . and clear
as a bell i recall thinking "this is great. where else could i do
this" "this is groovy, this is the life for me" . prolly my first
conscience thought about staying here...

got my first "d" on a report card shorly after this .by the end
of my year at that school i also accomplished my first "f".my
parents were so proud . and i slowly moved into my
fuck it stage .

there are four or five of these letters left . i'm going to take
a break on these last ones , real life is proving to be a
challenge at the moment . nothing life threatening or anything like
that , but am mentally tied up in knots and need to concentrate
on some things . so i will pick things up in a bit ,when i'm not so
distracted . i have to redo my calender alert for '10 , so i can
post on our milestone birthdays and whatnot ...enjoy...

Certainly take a break. 40 years ago I never dreamed we would be doing this anyway, and never dremaed I'd still have those letters. Amazing, 41 years ago we never thought our parents would be dead, we'd have the particular life and children we have, mileage behind us with all kinds of successes and failures, issues of all kinds, and an old pack of cigarettes in our underwear. This is real life yet literature from the living past, another world, and fascinating. Like totally "Time Tunnel!"

Interesting write up, and interesting song list. Hell, I still play those on the axe in any given week. At my high school, and Tom can probably attest to this, we could smoke right on the front porch and no one would do anything, or rarely do anything about it.

I bet Jesse Butler started that-hahaha. Back in '71, the students actually trried to get a student smoking lounge! Naturally, they were turned down, while Corbett and them were lighting up in the teacher's lounges. Cussid hogrot-student smoking lounge. eventually they replaced that idea with pop machines in school. Now evry body is diabetic, right?
