i think about it , this pic looks like it was taken
with my old brownie camera . don't recall if

Hey, thanks for posting. I actually did close my eyes and visualized myself back there. I was just at Cherry grove and visited his resting place last week. Come on out and we'll visit aunt Theo. Look at those cool cars!

Uncle Vane was a fun guy to be around. Would take his shoes of and sit on the couch with his feet up to watch both baseball and footbal games at gramma's and elsewhere. As a youngster, loved the smell of that cherry tobacco in his pipe, and his occasional curse words, haha. Loved to golf, and in the winter of course loved to snowmobile. I remember visiting in Oscoda alot too. He built a really nice addition onto the house up there. Once he helped me figure out how to put up this tent I had bought, that was pretty funny as one little canvas piece that went over the end of a pole looked like a part of male anatomy and of course uncle Vane made a funny comment about that and started laughing. Tammy and I launched his canoe from his backyard into the bayou and went down the Ausable river on a camping trip. Man, the fish up there were jumpin all of the time! My dad always looked forward to seeing Vane and going golfing with him. A dedicated serviceman, father, husband, uncle, great guy. I remember going up to Wurtsmith Airforce base in Oscoda to an airshow. It was awesome as we could get on some of those planes and tour them, like the B52 bomber, will never forget how cool that was. for quite a while Vane always drove Chevy Impalas which were pretty nice back then. Once when I was really little all of us were out in the yard at gramma's and the sun was in my eyes and I walked up to a pair of pants that looked like my dad's from down there, and tugged on the pantleg,"Hey dad, does this mean we're leaving soon"? It was uncle Vane and he says,"well Danny you could go with me but hell I already got 2 kids of my own"! It will be 25 years ago this Nov. that he, and gramma had to leave us. It's hard to believe.

once we were riding with theo and vane,me and sis in the back seat.vane is of course driving his impala.don't recall where we were going,or had been.at one point vane turned on the headlights of the car.after looking at his watch he said he thought it was weird to be so dark so early in the afternoon.at that point someone mentioned his was still wearing his dark, dark sunglasses.he thought that was a great joke on himself...and we all laughed for miles after.

Hey gang, click on the Historic u.s.27 link, about the old 27 classic car cruise, then scroll down at the before and after pics of old 27....and you guys know exactly where that is without even looking at the explanation.

why yes, thats one of my favorite spots on old 27.the famous do not pass sign, just north of town.as a kid i called it donut pass and used it as early warning that we were minutes from grammas house...

what is striking about the pics,to me at least is the diffence in the amount of foilage along the road.sure was a whole lotta cuttin in the 50 some years between the photos...
