If I ever saw this photo, I do not remember it. Must be of Grandma Allen's collection or something. It is a good thing Dan rescued these photos from oblivion if only by chance. I presume our children will generally not know who these people are or care because they do not apply directly to their lives, just as we really do not know our ancesters. The Hoovers have a grandmother who died early, and the Timlin side of our family has a grandmother we never knew who died in 1938 (circumstances/explanations for both deaths seem confusing based on the knowledge I have been told, which may be erroneous either way). Interesting because if only we could meet these people it may explain a lot, haha. Seriously it would show where we got some of our mannerisms and temperment from. I truly believe these are both genetic and learned.
This photo was dated 1947 which means pre-TV career in radio for Lyle. I was just looking up the Rifleman the other day and someone described Chuck Connors as a ball player turned actor. Lyle knew him as a ball player first, before being an actor since he was a sports announcer, so there's the connection. It is totally amazing to me that a guy from a small farming village who used to go fishing and play ball at school with the local boys in Clare County Michigan became somewhat a celebrity.
Yes, I don't believe I'd ever seen the photo either. It was in gramma's photo album, which I do remember looking through years ago, but don't remember this one. I do remember that Allen keeps quite a record of family history. Case in point one of the reason's for his visit to MI. years ago. I bet he's find this blog interesting.
And, in answer to one of Steve's questions. Now that I look at this, it does look like it may have been cut to size on the bottom, maybe to fit in the scrapbook. But this is how I recieved it.
dan,thats what i figured...
