and we send out a hearty old 27 birthday
greeting to uncle lyle , born on this day
94 years ago today . this pic was taken in '69
or '70 , and is how i best remember him since
we moved out here in '69 . and we lost him much,
much too early . a person just couldn't be in a bad
mood around him . he would move heaven and earth
to bring you out of whatever had you down .and
with that infectious smile of his you just had to
smile yourself.come to think of it , i never at any point
saw him in a bad mood...or angry . kinda like i remember his
mother being . he was gracious , kind and supportive to me,
to the point of coming all the way out to where we
lived(ok,it wasn't that far) between his news broadcasts
to see the plays i was in as a junior in high school . and
would give pep talks and offer encouragement to
the other cast members . thats the kind of guy our
uncle lyle was...
so here's to you uncle lyle . it was a privilege and
an honor to know you . and i , and as i'm sure every
family member does , still miss you very much...

you were a lucky guy, you got know him more than I
Glad you posted this. Yes Uncle Lyle was indeed a great guy. certainly missed. Always upbeat and nice as can be to me as I recall. When I got really sunburned from playing and the pool he went down to the store and bought some stuff called ST-37 which helped cool me off as he knew I was miserable and also some zinc which I proudly wore on my nose like joe tourist ar Disneyland. I remember when he visited MI. and took an interest in my schoolwork papers, helping me with my spelling and was very encouraging wanting to hear Tom's piano playing. Also he got Chuck Conners of Rifleman fame at the time, to write a letter for my dad to confirm Chuck indeed knew Lyle and was partners with him, thereby winning quite a bet for my dad at work, hahaha. And my dad kept that letter for decades! I know my mom as well as everyone else were extremely saddened when Lyle passed. And like you said we all still miss him. I talked to Allen via e-mail and will give him this link.
