well,well,well...here we are again .40 years and 1 day later ,
the triumphant (cough cough ) return of the of fabled letters
of one steve hoover,esq...with the extra added bonus of
being even more insufferable than before ! some good things
have happened , and some not good things too . i was entering
my senior year of high school .i was smoking and drinking . which
made school a real drag , man. what else ?oh yeah , my dad had
come home from one of his late, late nights at work to tell my
mother that he was leaving . because he had fallen in love
with another woman . two and a half years in cali ,and
my sister and i are living in a one parent household...
i don't think this letter reflects any of that as i was enjoying
more freedom than i would have otherwise . but through my
life that has been the source of one of my biggest "what-ifs?"
what if my parents hadn't split up...what if we hadn't left MI.,
would they have stayed together ? what if i had been in
constant contact with my cousins?what if what if what if...
oh well,that was 40 years(and a day) ago...
and i still don't,and never will know the answers ...
and so it goes .

Tried to comment yesterday but didn't take apparently. Genrally I said there sure are a lot of What If's life that you can't control. Unfortunately, many of them are not good at all (to put it politely)and yours must have really sucked, and double that for your mom. Can't change it and better tto only rememeber the good stuff, as Van Foster, a family friend once said to me. Around the same time my dad lost his job. But I would go back in time if offered, in a second just to see how it was from an outside observers standpoint. they should make a movie like that. I could write it from my perpective as a book or movie script,(or co-write it) change the names, but that would be embarrasing. it is what it is I guess....one nagging question in my head has always been the same as yours: What if you had stayed or moved back to Michigan? Well, at least we would not have had such a long (34 years until the internet communication started) absence, eh? Then we could have,(insert echo here) bwahahahahaha, taken over the world!
34 years being from 1969 not including the 1973 visit or occasional phone call. Actually should have said 35 years. I think we started in 2004. Lot of bridges under the water since then, nyuk, nyuk.
