in memorium...

thirty years ago tonite...

We lost Margaret Allen and Vane Mickle. A lot has changed since then. Parents have died, children have been born and stolen from home, children having children and marriages, more good people lost and gained.

Still we can ask, after all this time, what is the meaning of life and is there a meaning. What was the meaning of their lives. The only answer I can give is so that the next generation can carry on. Still their loss is felt and hurts. We want to ask, in difficult times, what would they tell us to do? And in good times, why can’t they be here to enjoy this with us? It’s not fair. But maybe they are with us all the time, as long as our memory is working.

So if you two are listening, we could all use your help…..can you put in a good word for us, eh?

And the weather was bad that day as well.  Pat died 10 years later so its been 20 years since he passed as well. I remember that day 30 years ago just like it was 2 weeks ago.  When we got together afterwards at grammas house, it was the last time I set foot in the house.  Pat wanted to go in the garage and have one. I remember being a pall barer for both. Walking from where Vane's final graveside service was, over to where gramma's was.  Been there with gramma before to go put flowers on Floyd's site.  Well Theo had the worst day of all of us, and then lost her son 10 years later.

And her sisters of course and she is still here.  God bless them all.
They will never of course will be forgotten, and this date should be memorialized and remembered but nothing is more miserable than thinking about all of these funerals.  Pure fucking misery.  So celebrate their lives by living ours to the fullest and trying to get some happiness out of each day.

i was busy consoling my mother that night ,she was of course extremely upset . i myself
was pretty torn up , but i had been drinking which made it worse . cyndi showed up
at some point and we all sat around and cried . mom started making plans to
go to michigan . i decided to not make the trip as i couldn't get off work to
go . and i remember thinking "if i couldn't see them while they were alive i'll be
damned if i'm gonna go back now" . i knew gramma would understand , but it didn't
stop me from feeling guilty .so i just drank some more...

i guess what i'm saying is that even though i would have liked to see them
one last time...but i should have done it while they were still around .

rest in peace to them and all the family we have lost over the years.our ranks
are thinning, but that is the natural order of things , and we all need to
be thankful to those who came before us even as we mourn their loss .

Thanks for the post Steve. That was one of the hardest days of my life. I remember. We did not know who this one guy was. We found out he was the Meals on Wheels guy who delivered to Grandma's house everyday. I made a comment "Well he's too late today." Pat and Dan sort of snickered. We needed a little comic relief.

You know that's a good photo of our old dining room ca 1970-71. Behind the wall in back is the half bath, and the door to the garage. on the wall are the plastic flowers that hung there for years. The curtains are where the glass sliding doors were. The best way to glimpse into the house through the few pictures we have. O probably took the photo, but where's dad? in the half bath? Hahahahaha. Of course, the people too. Those were the good old days.....
