I believe it was the last weekend in September 1972 or 73 that Grandma's basement had flooded primarily we surmised later because of the construction of the big hill they had constructed for the highway 10 exit off of then MI 27 north (now called 127 north). The water would run down the hill in back of Paul Nass' property into his field, into the the artesian wells underneath the ground. these wells would overflow and send water to Grandma's basement. Uncle Vane, Paul, Dan and I were down shoving water around trying to dry it up. I think by the Grandma had a sump pump in a foot deep well which was later dug deeper. The water would be pumped our a hose to the outside. Probably the water got recycled back into the basement , hahahhaha. Dad told me about the artesian wells. there must have been about 4 inches, we were in boots (had taken our winter boots up north). I have one photo somewhere of that Saturday, later afternoon into night in the basement.

Actually it's hard to believe they built that exit curve 45 years ago. Makes harder to remember what that field was like before it was built, you could see the traffic a mile away on New  27 I think. Before that, all farm field I guess.
