Vane Mickle Snowmobile Story as shared with Chad Mickle, his grand son this week :

Vane Mickle - He was the first one in the Allen/Mickle Side of the family to get a Polaris snowmobile, around 1970-71. Must be in the Mickle blood lol.Brother and I rode around in it up at Clare (my grandmothers house, (Theo and my mother's mother) and up in Oscoda 2-3 times. Even dad and mom tried it out. By fall 1973, my dad got one...a Snow Jet. Then after a few years we replaced that one with a slightly used thing called a Scorpion with a bigger more powerful Yamaha engine than the engine Vane had. Of course Vane tried it out and was real impressed with the pick up and the speed. One day about winter 1980-81 [ it could have been as early as 1978 or 1979] Vane asked Paul, my dad, while at Clare, if he could borrow it on the sly, a "don't tellTheo or the wives, etc...," kind of guy thing. So they switched snowmobiles with them under the wrong covers [the Polaris cover over the Scorpion snowmobile and vice versa] on their trailers, lol. Vane must have told a story to Theo some half true story about how he was going to be gone with some buddies snowmobiling. Vane entered the ice race up at Alpena, and damned if he didn't win the race! (He was an ex WWII pilot hahaha). After he died in late 1985, Theo called my mother in early 1986, she had found the trophy hidden in the back of a closet. So dad had to admit the whole story..at that point. Hahahahaha. All we could do was laugh and Theo said she was glad he had a good time considering he got a stroke shortly after that. Vane was about 60 when he won that trophy over a bunch of younger guys. what a laugh. That engine was powerful-Vane must have done his homework! We never knew this story until Theo discovered the trophy around the Spring of 1986.🤣
