everett Allen
the facts as I know them are only pieced together through stuff i read, experiences being at the Clare Historical Museum in Dover, MI. everett was somewhat of an inventor, with the assistance of his brother Floyd Allen. they built some kind of steam powered road grader and digger, or a couple variations thereof, and hired out to do digging and grading jobs. Not clear if it got off the ground. this may been where steve hoover had inherited the mechanical inventor side of him with his idea for a sea crawler, scowering the bottom of the sea for lost treasure and nuclear silos. Later everette became sheriff of Clare County in the 50 and early sixties. A relative, Allan Henderson became a deputy sheriff. No doubt it had something to do with the fact his father was a country clerk (bill henderson, who was married to everett and floyd's sister Josephine). enter Spike Horn (John Meier) the character with the bears and other animals on the corner of Old 27 and 61. He had a black man from Detroit portraying an American indian, with his wife playing the squaw. The indian eventually likened to a young lady of 16, after Spike Horn had died and the indian tried to run the joint, around 1960-61. The 16 year old's father got mad and said the indian could not se his daughter any more. indian got heap mad and went over and murdered the father I believe, maybe everybody, don't remember. (By this time I imagine the squaw had left, disgusted). Now they went on a man hunt with the county and state police and caught up with the guy and out him in jail. I believe it was after his conviction while still in the county jail he tricked allan henderson and got the keys from him and locked him in the cell while escaping. everyone was out looking for a renegade Indian. Allen was stuck in this cell. He got a bad case of claustrophobia after that, he said. everett and the state police eventually found the indian, the state police took him away to the penitentiary. That's all i remember reading about that.
