dover school reunion 1994...

(double left click on images for larger version)

These are four photos from the 1994 Dover School Reunion, Dover, MI north of the Old 27 Allen house 1 mile and about 1 mile west down Dover Road.

This was the last one Loree Timlin attended before her death in Dec of 1994. i believe Paul Timlin was there also but not in the photo because he was not a former student. Olive allen and her relatives were there also, as they live nearby. the next year Marilyn, Olive's daughter was there, too. All the Hoovers except Ben's family were there the next year (in 1995).

Theo Mickle, Dorothy Allen, and possible a Hoover brother are all in the photo, along with other shir tail relatives and former sudents of Dover that i have come to know over the years. Nelda Murphy was always excellent along with Theo Miclke and a few others in organizing this event. the event was often hooked up with the Clare Historical Society and enjoyed meeting those folks too and got to know them for a while.
Usually it's just the kids and I that go as they have grown up knowing the school and fairly new historical museum and cabin now on the lot. The wife has no interest in the place as she did not grow up there like we did. She might come this time.

That is all I recall anymore from that day, except the delicious food. This was back when more people would show up. Now maybe 25 or 30 show up where there used to be 50 or 60 or even more.
The family and I will be attending the next one on July 20, 2008 and I will try to take more photos of certain places (including you know where). They did not do a reunion in 2007. I am hoping Theo would show up and I am going to bug her until she does.

one final word. when you go to these, if you any affiliation or affection for the area at all, it really is like going home and visiting what heaven would be like, if only your loved ones were there with you. A strange feeling of ecstacy comes over you.

Intersting. Never saw that picture of mom. One of the last I guess.

Mr. T. says: Backs of photos say 1994 so I presume that is the year. the years then seem to melt altogether since my memory is foggy - probably because of the unpleasant thoughts of mom's ongoing cancer battle at the time. It's hard to accept talking to someone one proverbial moment, and the next moment they are gone. Sorry to cheer you up so much! Typical Irish family I guess...no wonder the Irish reputation is drinking...they drink to forget the pain.
