Yes, he was quite a guy..I really enjoyed being around uncle Vane. He loved ,golf, sports, was a military man. Smoked his pipe. Always made us laugh about something, great sense of humor. Found a P.B. in his den once, hahaha. He finished an addition on the house in Oscoda. Pretty much introduced us to the joys of snowmobiling, letting us drive his machine to our hearts content. I know it was real hard for everyone, especially aunt Theo, when he got sick. But I prefer to rremember him as he was, a great guy. Sure miss him. Thanks for posting.
he and your dad used to crack me up...both of them.independenty and together they we're some of the funniest guys i've ever known.
Thanks Steve. What is it about uncles that make cousins laugh at them even more than their own children. I guess you see them every day and that's makes them special. Vane was a special guy...he was one of those guys that you could tell had more guts in his little finger than you would ever imagine. Earlier in life he flew airplanes over the pacific in WWII and had to bail out twice and get picked up out of the drink. He and Pat once made a 1 ole golf course out of Paul Nass' field with a red rag and pole up at Grandma's. He faced about 4 heart attacks and a stroke. He won the ALpena snow mobile race around age 60 over the all younger snots. And he could scare the hell out of you if you gt in his way watching the football game on TV, hahaha. But he was so funny too. And the family dog, Sadie, sure appeared to like him the most-everytime he would say to Sadie "You wanna go girl, you wanna go for a walk?" od he would play with her, the dog would get the most excited. I remember Theo saying when they had to put that dog to sleep, it was Vane that wept. The rest of us wept when Vane had to go to sleep, because he loved life.
