wow . i thought there was a time warp in the last edition .
but i see the real temporal distortion is this one . 8
months have gone by since the last letter . then , we were
still in germany . now we're in cali , soakin' up the rays ,
and learning the lay of the land out here . sad as it was
to leave clare , it was exciting to be in san diego . as i
read this one i can tell it still had not sunk in what a
drastic change our moving out here was . i guess i thought
we would still be getting together for holidays and what
not. little did i know it would be 4 years before i made
it back to clare...
i also was fascinated by my hair . it was "over my ears"!!!
small victories i suppose . at least my dad was lightening
up a bit and letting me fit in better . and , oh yeah , i
got turned on "rolling stone " magazine , thanx to cousin
susan . she was pretty hip and with it ,far as i could see,
and she and her friend diane actually performed music ! i
mean man , this was living...
we could receive some l.a. tv stations late at nite . one
of them actually broadcast overnite ! who had ever heard
of such a thing ? ok , i had...when we were stuck in the
greater new york area upon arriving back "in the world" ,&
they had a station or two which did that . talk about your
basic culture shock ...
all in all ,it's hard to say which life i would have
preferred . the one i lived , or the one i left behind...

What a choice, at that age, warm weather and California chicks, or freezing cold in winter, and Michigan chicks in Clare (the kind that live in the hen house, right?)
Talk about a dividing line in history (like BC and AD? Or before Thomas Edison, and after, before the atom bomb and after?)This was it for you, and us.
I saw Susan and her friend singing when we were out there as Lyle wanted them to show off for us. They were very good. I remember them in the typical hippie era flowered dresses and long hair. She was probably 22 at the time. Wonder how long they did that.
