“And I ain’t got nobody…..”
Well when we were little Jackie Gleason Show just ended about now(8:30 pm) on Saturday night. And away we go….
Later on I think Gilligan followed Jackie Gleason…
Than we had to go to bed, unless it was at Grandma’s and we stayed up a little later, say 9:30. Then we went to bed while the folks watched a little TV. We went to bed in Gram’s front bedroom, then got transferred about 11pm or so to couches. Before there were two couches Dan had to sleep on a mattress on the floor lol. We all slept on the floor when all cousins were there. Cindy with Grandma I think. I’m not sure but I thought Ban and Joann slept in the basement bed or they would switch sometimes with Paul and Loree in the basement and them upstairs. Don’t know. Dan went out quick usually while I listened to cars go by, stared at the ceiling tiles thinking about stuff, and then drifted off.
But at 6:30 am Grandma was up, making noise with the pots and pans and cooking bacon and eggs. I really don’t why she slammed those damn pans around, it was like she was trying to wake us up. Oh wait……Hahahaha.

Yes, you always heard the grandma shuffle, and that tea pot whistling sometimes. She wouldn't put in the hearing aid until after someone got up, then it was screeching ("Fiddle sticks") RING! Rose Nass calling. And for God;s sake if ya know what's good for you don't go in the bathroom for awhile after she's been in there, and definatley don't drink from the false teeth glass. But oh how I long for those days. Yes I remember sleeping on the bed downstairs too. I didn't mind sleeping on the floor when younger was quite the adventure! But the mosquitoes could be bothersome. Sometimes I'd take a nap in the front bedroom, I loved the outdoorsy smell and the cars mesmerized me to sleep.

Now I long for those simpler days. Yes, that was trippy. ya wonder where the fuck people are going. I do remember those pull down shades, nobody was going to be peering in with those down. I was mentioning to Tom last week, how gramma lived there alone, no cable or internet, no car, no cell phone etc. for a good 27 years after grandpa Floyd passed is beyond me. I realize people called and or came over, and we'd visit weekends and Mickles too but still...I mean we can go it alone for a good while but we aren't isolated and have all these conveniences.

Maybe Paul Nass was giving her a go, who knows? There there, I'm passing the brain bleach now, don't worry. I'm sitting here watching these stupid fights waiting for This Ronda Rousy chick to fight this Brazilian girl. I don't usually care but was bored.

Good point, the car headlights passing like ghosts in the night. You know we can all see them in our heads. Sometimes I used to get up out of that bed, past the cub scout picture of Hoover, hahahaha, and watch a few of them go by on the road. In the early days there was the light at the golf course. It was series of lights on a straight metal bar…they would run up the bar from bottom to top or something and then flash all together, then stop. Obviously this was for the bar at the golf course which probably stayed open til 1 pm. Of course that building is no longer there and has not been since the end of the 60’s or early 70’s probably. They built a new building in the 70’s farther back from the road and to the right. There was another building to the left of where the old building was built. A restaurant/bar having to do with Texas steaks. I was in there a couple times with Dad and Vane. They built that around 1974 and it burned down after they failed and closed it up, about 1980 maybe.
Trivia: the Paul Nass barn burned down around 1978, maybe 1979-80. That sucked, and totally changed the look of the immediate area as I remember it, forever. It was a year or two after Paul Nass had died. He died around 1978. That really sucked too...what a nice man he was. I have very fond memories of him and would have attended his funeral had I known in time. I don’t know why at least mom didn’t attend the funeral if not both parents. They (Nasses) took care of Grandma all the time, damn good people. When Rose died in about 1983, I think that was the last straw for Grandma. Rose was one of the last of her best friends.
Of course you guys are welcome to correct or add anything, these are just the way I remember it, I just do not remember Dad or Mom attending the funeral. Dan, it’s like when Lane’s dad died in 1978 and I was at college and nobody told me until it was all over. I was bummed I didn’t attend the funeral as I felt bad for the family.

That's probably the most relaxed I've ever been. Away from Lansing and their crappy public schools, up north at grammas, and taking a nap in that front bedroom with window open and the country smells of pine and cedar, curtains sometimes blowing, listening to the cars go by. Sometimes While the men were golfing the gals would go into town grocery shopping or to aunt louise' or something, and if I didn't go I'd be in there taking a completely refreshing nap. Zzzzzzzzzz.....wait, I just got up! Either that or trying to murder birds with bibi gun.

Come to think of it that Texas Steak and bar place was put up in 1972.
